Multi-encoder card:
Use ONE inverter – save TWO additional ones!

Multi-encoder card

MOVIAXIS® axis modules can be equipped with the "multi-encoder" option card. This card offers a broad spectrum of applications. The multi-encoder card is used to read another encoder (Hiperface, EnDat, TTL, SinCos) into the axis module. This means the encoder is available as synchronous encoder or additional motor encoder.

Furthermore, a +/- 10 V interface (12 bit) is available for analog control as well as encoder simulation. The analog input can also be used as torque or general setpoint specification.

All encoders are supplied from the inverter. If individual encoders have a higher current/voltage requirement, then the encoder voltage can be fed into the card externally. It goes without saying that motor temperature monitoring is an integral part.

The multi-encoder card in combination with the multi-motor operation firmware function allows for operating another motor on an axis module. Each of the maximally three motors has its own, complete parameter set (e.g. motor parameters, limit switches, referencing, limits, etc.).

This means one servo inverter with maximally two multi-encoder cards and the already integrated motor encoder can be used to sequentially move three motors.

MOVIAXIS® takes over the critical changeover of encoder signals in the unit. The motor power will then only have to be switched using a standard contactor.

This functionality considerably saves costs and control cabinet space whenever several drives have to be moved in sequence. Application examples are machines with format change drives that may only be operated when the machine is at standstill. In this case, a MOVIAXIS® servo inverter can be used to operate the main drive in normal operation while two other format change drives are moved one after the other during a production pause.

This means two additional inverters and the corresponding control cabinet space can be saved.
