According to SEW-Eurodrive Strategic Marketing and Product Manager, Darren Klonowski, precision automation is crucial to the success of most packaging applications. “High speed and accurate movement, positioning and motion operations are central to maximising packaging throughput and production,” he said. “SEW-Eurodrive’s end-to-end drive solutions--ranging from geared motors through to advanced electronics and drive control software--provide manufacturers and packaging OEMs with the flexibility and optimisation tools necessary for this demanding sector.”
 
Featured at this year’s exhibition will be SEW-Eurodrive’s PLC/motion controller--the MOVI-PLC. Specifically designed to support members of the unique SEW-Eurodrive frequency inverter solution set, the MOVI-PLC product family combines both conventional PLC control and ’motion control’ into a single compact platform. MOVIPLC provides the packaging sector with high levels of development flexibility, efficiency and total system cost-savings.

The MOVI-PLC suite reflects the flexibility and scalability that is globally recognised as the hallmark of the entire SEW-Eurodrive offering. “Australian packagers can--for the first time--purchase a completely integrated and proven drive system from a single reliable source,” said Klonowski. “MOVI-PLC can simply be incorporated into the expansion slot of either the SEW-Eurodrive MOVIDRIVE ‘B’ or MOVITRAC ‘B’ inverters, empowering either drive to address higher-end packaging applications.”

Also on display at AUSPACK 2007 will be SEW-Eurodrive’s MOVIDRIVE ‘B’ application inverter. This advanced unit offers Australian packagers an application inverter of optimal versatility, processing power and cost-efficiency, and is available in large power capacities. This single unit supports the broad spectrum of inverter applications typically found across the packaging sector: ranging from standard variable speed drive requirements and all the way up to sophisticated servo positioning, synchronising and electronic cam applications.

“The MOVIDRIVE ‘B’ provides the Australian packaging industry with a truly scaleable inverter--one that can span the breadth of packaging applications,” said Klonowski. “MOVIDRIVE ‘B’ is also equipped with a built-in expansion slot that opens the door to the widest range of drive system control, connectivity and communications.”

The company’s locally-assembled CM series permanent-magnet servo motors will also be on show at AUSPACK 2007. Offering a large torque range, the CM servo motors exhibit the accuracy and precision found across the entire SEW-Eurodrive suite of drive solutions--an attribute that makes them ideal for a wide range of packaging applications. Providing premium torque-to-weight ratios and positioning accuracy, the SEW-Eurodrive CM servo plus gearbox, coupled with a SEW-Eurodrive application inverter, provides the complete end-to-end servo solution for almost any packaging application.

In addition to its floor exhibit, SEW-Eurodrive will provide a sneak preview of its latest mechatronic drive system, MOVIGEAR, as part of AUSPACK 2007’s ‘new product showcase’. Representing the future of materials handling technology, MOVIGEAR is a fully integrated drive solution, comprising gear unit, motor and electronics. The latest development in SEW-Eurodrive’s decentralised drive systems, MOVIGEAR’s compact design enables straightforward installation in new and existing applications.
