SEW-EURODRIVE has been a supplier of drive technology for many decades and is among the leading companies for drive technology worldwide. Raising the bar in terms of innovation and process optimization, their commitment to the advancement of drive technology is further shown in the new industrial gear unit plant in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

By immensely expanding its production capabilities in Industrial Gears from the production and logistics plants in Graben, Germany, the new plant and is an investment in the future of the company, and the customers it provides for. Currently, the Industrial Gear (IG) units are assembled in Germany, Brazil, Chile, China, Finland, South Africa, Singapore, India, the United States and Australia, with a worldwide service network to ensure high product availability.

Over the past year, construction of the new industrial plant has developed at incredible pace, with up to 450 engineers, architects, technicians and construction workers involved in the production process on a daily basis.  The production and logistics plant in Baden-Wurttemberg is equivalent to the area of nine soccer fields, where an estimated 500 employees will work hand in hand with machines to manufacture gear units in unique, highly-productive manufacturing and assembly processes.

An integral approach is being taken to cut environmental pollution at the new plant, as raw materials are becoming ever scarcer and CO₂ emissions are on the rise. SEW will strive to use valuable resources efficiently and aim to achieve an optimum environmental balance. The new industrial gear unit plant fulfils these requirements, with their state of the art combined heat and power plant, which will produce both electricity and utilizable waste heat.

By the end of March 2009, the work on the new plant should be completed to the extent that logistics and assembly can be started. SEW has one clear goal in sight- to use the new industrial gear units in the IGX and P series to expand the company’s product portfolio.

One part of this expanded portfolio is the complete range of IGX, which is now available in Australia. Expanded from a 7 size range, there are now 15 sizes of unrivalled fine size graduation that covers the medium torque range from 58 to 475 kNm, with the biggest weighing 8 tonnes. The greater number of predefined optional equipment offers a higher level of flexibility for adjusting the industrial gear unit to the specific application with a minimum of components at a maximum availability.

The wide range of gear ratios for helical and bevel-helical gear units demonstrates that the X-series meets the requirements of a complete and comprehensive gear unit series. Many aspects have been taken into account in the design, with robust housing, low-noise gearing and cooling system, as machinery used in the mining and construction industry are constantly exposed to extreme conditions.

This is just another challenge SEW-EURODRIVE has researched and developed, and with the new plant almost complete, the company will continue to produce efficient, customized and complete Industrial Gear packages for its customers.
