SEW-Eurodrive has unveiled the MOVIPRO SDC standard drive controller - the company’s newest decentralised drive solution.
Founded on SEW-Eurodrive’s proven MOVIDRIVE inverter technology, the MOVIPRO SDC features a compact IP54-rated enclosure and
provides industry with an easy-to-use field-mountable drive solution - ideal for decentralised single-axis speed control and
positioning applications.
According to SEW-Eurodrive Victorian Sales and Product Manager, Darren Klonowski, decentralised drive systems, such as the
MOVIPRO SDC, streamline drive control and installation. 'The MOVIPRO SDC’s IP54-rated enclosure permits on-machine installation.
By field-mounting the MOVIPRO close to the gear-motors, ‘real-estate’ requirements in the central control cabinet are reduced,'
he said. 'This permits a dramatic reduction in installation, material and maintenance costs associated with wiring inverters
back to the central control cabinet.'
The new MOVIPRO SDC is offered in two physical sizes—4 to 7.5kW and 11 to 15kW—accommodating standard variable speed drive,
as well as positioning and synchronous applications, such as those associated with hi-tech conveyors, stackers and cranes.
The unit is also equipped with incremental or absolute encoder feedback functionality and integrated brake control, negating
the need for separate brake control equipment and voltage supplies. This is especially valuable for hoisting applications.
Importantly, the MOVIPRO SDC is fully supported by a comprehensive library of pre-configured application modules, which permit
fast-tracked configuration.
The MOVIPRO SDC’s integrated communications gateway supports a wide array of external fieldbus communication protocols, including
Profibus, DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP and ProfiNet. 'This permits straightforward connection from the machine-based MOVIPRO SDC,
to supervisory PLCs and SCADA systems—an essential for such decentralised control architectures,' said Klonowski.
An optional maintenance switch allows site technicians to isolate the mains power to the MOVIPRO SDC. This provides troubleshooting
flexibility, allowing maintenance to be carried out without risk of energising the motor. Additional operational and set-up
flexibility is provided by the MOVIPRO SDC’s optional I/O interfaces and plug-in/plug-out connections.
