As one of the region's largest and most comprehensive full-service motor and drive solutions providers, SEW-Eurodrive will
take centre-stage at October's Goldfields Mining Expo (GME) in Kalgoorlie, WA, showcasing its extensive range of heavy-duty
drive technologies. The company will exhibit elements from its innovative range of gear-units, geared motors, and frequency
inverters-all specially designed for heavy-duty applications with high-transmitted loads, making them ideal for the needs
of mining, mineral processing and quarrying processes.
According to SEW-Eurodrive WA Manager, Trevor Hughes, the modularity and high power-density of the company's industrial gear-unit
range make them an effective and versatile solution for the region's diverse range of mining applications. "We're looking
forward to assisting local WA miners with drive solutions suitable for their gold, nickel, and iron ore mining projects,"
he said. "Our gear-unit offering delivers extremely compact and versatile drive options for Australia's natural resources
and heavy engineering industries. Additionally, the ability to withstand harsh operating environments makes our motor and
drive solutions suitable for all of Australia's mineral/ore bulk-handling and processing operations."
A particular point of interest on the SEW-Eurodrive stand at GME will be the company's Australian-assembled X-Series gear-units.
"This series boasts the finest torque-graduation on the market, allowing users to closely match an X-Series gear-unit to their
application. This provides unrivalled gear-unit choice and flexibility for the mining industry," said Hughes. "The X-Series
is ideally suited to applications ranging from conveyor systems, to ball mills and agitators." The entire X-Series range is
offered in a choice of 15 sizes with torque ratings ranging from 58 to 475 kNm.
Also on show will be the X-Series' smaller ‘stable-mate', the MC Compact Series. Offered with the option of an extended bearing
distance (EBD) and reinforced output, SEW-Eurodrive's MC Compact Series is available in seven sizes, rated from 6 to 48kNm.
"The EBD version-normally assembled as a parallel vertical shaft design-provides freedom in system design as it requires remarkably
little space," said Hughes. "This is ideal for mixing, agitating, and thickener applications in the mining and minerals processing
industry."
At GME 2010, a number of SEW-Eurodrive engineers and technicians will be on hand to provide insight into the company's comprehensive
service and support offering. "We have the largest on-the-ground team of engineers and support staff in the region," said
Hughes. "This, combined with our state-of-the-art sales, service, training and assembly facility in Perth, means SEW-Eurodrive
is genuinely in a league of its own in terms of being able to support the local market place."
Importantly, SEW-Eurodrive's Perth premises holds over $1 million of stock and has been purpose-designed to accommodate the
assembly and repair of larger-sized complete drive packages. "This 2300-square-metre site features 800 square metres of electrical
and mechanical workshops," said Hughes. "In addition to 16-tonne and five-tonne overhead gantry cranes, we also have a two-tonne
jib crane. This heavy-lifting capability facilitates the fast-track assembly and repair of larger-size drive assemblies, providing
the quickest turnaround possible to ensure end-users can get back into production as quickly as possible."
